کلایدرمن یکی از بنام ترین نوازندگان پیانو در 28 دسامبر سال 1953 در فرانسه بدنیا آمد پدر او معام پیانو بود و به همین علت هم او از سال های کودکی نواختن پیانو رو آموخت . در شش سالگی میتونست از روی نت موسیقی رو بخوانه . او در سن دوازده سالگی وارد کنسرواتوار موسیقی شد و در شانزده سالگی اولین جایزه نوازندگی پیانو را از کنسرواتوار موسیقی پاریس دریافت کرد ریچارد کلایدرمن بعنوان یک نوازنده حرفه ای پیانو توانست به مقام و شهرتی دست پیدا کند که کمتر هنرمند موسیقی فرانسوی تا کنون به این درجه رسیده است. او طی سالها نوازندگی پیانو، تهیه آلبوم های زیبا و اجرای کنسرت از خود یک چهره بین المللی بر جای گذاشته است. وی در طول فعالیت حرفه ای خود بیش از 800 آلبوم موسیقی تهیه کرده است که در این میان 63 عدد از آنها بعنوان آلبوم پلاتینیوم و 263 عدد بعنوان آلبوم طلایی شناخته شده است، آمار فروش آلبوم های او نزدیک به نود میلیون نسخه ثبت شده تخمین زده می شود.
